About Us

 

Mālama o Nā Keiki | Caring for Hawai'i Neonates was born in July, 2008 and has served Niihau, Kaua'i, O'ahu, Moloka'i, Lana'i, Maui and Hawai'i Island. For the past 16 years, over 250 high-risk babies were supported, cultural programs pioneered for perinatal to early childhood and thousands participated in our targeted educational programs through the Children and Youth Day participants, local to global nursing conferences, and community advocacy.

How do we serve our high-risk babies?

  • NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit)
    • Necessities to support parent/caregiver visits: Air and/or ground transportation, overnight hotel stay, Piko food snack packs, diaper bag, car seat, safe play pens, and other ways.
    • 1st reading books
    • Kangaroo Care Wrap: Providing safe care support for parents/caregivers holding babies safely while intubated and use after discharge
    • "Bedside to Bedside" Transition hospital to home care
    • Professional neonatal education
    • Community advocate and connector

    • Discharge to home for new parents support
    • Connecting community resources
  • Unsheltered/"Resource Caregivers"/Residential program
    • Beaches/street to shelters to resource caregiver programs: Necessities for supporting babies with safe sleeping needs, nutritional needs, professional guidance with team members and other services
    • The Salvation Army Women's Way "Lei Poina 'ole" program supporting Residential/Off campus women and babies
  • Hospice - End-of-life support, guidance and bereavement

  • Perinatal Death - Guidance from diagnosis to cultural blessings into sunset
